First-Born
The High-Achiever
First-borns seek approval as kids and this carries into adulthood, explaining why most eldest children follow in the career footsteps of a parent. Jobs requiring high levels of perfection, accuracy and responsibility are their forte, and many end up as surgeons and lawyers. They're opinionated and like to have things their own way. But they put a lot of pressure on themselves to be on top of their game and are not huge risk-takers.
"First-borns tend to be more achievement-oriented, often referred to as detailed or organised people".
These kids had their parents to themselves for the first few years and every step, growth and "A" they brought home was noted. When their siblings arrived, first-borns helped take care of them and bossed them around, but were also envious of their ability to step out of their parents' shadow. Jessica Simpson has said of sis Ashlee, "I wish I had her personality traits. She moved to New York for ballet school when she was 11. I was still holding my mum's hand to cross the street!"
First-borns also tend to be inflexible in work and relationships. They need people who welcome their strong personality and one first-born dealing with another will often result in conflict. Maybe that's why Jess and Nick (also the eldest) didn't work out?
